Thank you for sharing this article I am so surprised by its contents! I had no idea there were so many undocumented Chinese living in China! Hearing Li Xue's story and those in her situation is heartbreaking. It truly does compare to the immigration story of many in the U.S. However I feel that this is somehow worse. A country rejecting and dehumanizing its own people based on a policy that also dehumanizes women is absolutely insane. This story also reminded me of our lecture with Louisa Lim and how secretive the police and government are. The article gives the impression that Li's family is also being watched. I'm impressed by her families courage to continually protest, and more so to protest in Tienanmen Square. If this law goes into effect it will be a victory for all who are victims of the one child policy. This also brings in questions about the economy; what will happen with 13 million citizens entering the workforce, all of whom will have the right to a full and proper pay? Will this help stop labor injustice in China, will it cause inflation? With China's current economic issues I'm wondering how economists are feeling about this possible policy change.
