GeaCron is an awesome resource for both teachers and students. On the main webpage you will see a map of the current world with the year 2016. You can type any year into this box and it will generate an entire world map for that given year. You can zoom into any part of the world and examine more closely the civilizations that ruled different areas around the world throughout time. It's a great resource to print maps for students. Or also a great way for students to explore with the geography of a particular place/unit. Tool arrow buttons let you navigate forward and backwards in time in increments of one year, 10 years, or 100 years. My China unit covers over 800 years of Chinese Dynasties. This website is a great way for students to truly grasp the concept of the different dynasties, how long they ruled and where they ruled. It also helps give them a bigger picture of the world, for example who was around in Europe during the Tang Dynasty, or the Song Dynasty. It really helps bring all of the content closer together. Especially for world history it helps the students see that this class isn't particularly liner, because we go back and forth between the same dates, in different parts of the world.
