We watch this almost every year at professional development trainings - it always amazes me how fast shifting happens worldwide, and how far behind sometimes I feel like we are.

    Did You Know Shift Happens

Did You Know Shift Happens started as a PowerPoint presentation for a high school faculty meeting in 2007 and went viral. Since then, it has been updated a couple of times, but the facts are global information about jobs, technology, and people including China and India. It talks about the dissemination of information through technology and careers. It has interesting facts like if you are 1 in a million in China, there are 1,300 of you or China will soon be the number one English speaking country in the world. The more controversial fact is that 25% of India's population with the highest IQ is greater than the population of the United States.

I have shown the 2008/2009 version a couple of years ago in my AVID, and it is a good anticipatory activity when getting into career research. It's a good way to get students to thinking about evaluating where information comes from. Is it valid? Who are the authors? What is their purpose?
