When finding this site it is very easy, just write the title. However there are several China the Beautiful so you or your student have to find the correct one. The site is very child friendly. It is colorful- blue and red with gold writing in both English and Chinese
It is described as a art, music and literature site and there certain are those sites. They have photos of museum pieces. There are buttons for Chinese characters under calligraphy and buttons for how it sounds in Chinese. The Beijing Opera has a lengthy section as does poetry in both English and Chinese..
Other topics are also covered. There are great selection on Chinese maps, Bridges, The Silk Road, Battles, Astromony, China's Space Program,Festivals and there is a button just for the Chinese New Year. The site even has a button on how to travel to China. That is why I think this would be a great site for use in the classroom. It is so child friendly all they need to do is find something that interests them and click it. It would be a great way to check out research topics since there are links to other sites on that topic. I also think the combination of site in English and Chinese give the students the opportunity to see and sometimes hear Chinese. There are a few buttons that show the site in only Chinese. However, usually you can get something- a picture or tapestry and possibly an artifact from the site.
There are over forty topics with all of them having buttons to push. As an example you cn connect from Astronomy to Chinese Mathematics. I would give thes webpage a 4 out of 5 and hope you use it in your classes.
(I edited this to put the name of the website in the subject line. N. Perkins - you are correct that it is important to have students find the correct one. Would you please give us the URL for the correct one? - Clay)
