In 1921, Mao started the communist party with 13 members. He allied with Russia to fight the nationalist army controlling the southern part of China and supported by the United States. Japan enters the war in 1927 and defeats the Nationalists, causing great damages among Jian Cai Shek's nationalist army and the civilian population. Japan renamed the country as Manchukoo. The city of Nanjing is destroyed, rapped and killed over 300,000 people. This dark part of Japan's war behavior is well remembered in the history of China. A movie depicting this disaster is registered in the movie "The City of life and death", in B&W, 2004, R rated because of the killing scenes. When the communist took over in 1936, the nationalists moved to Taiwan, protected by the US forces. Taiwan celebrates their Independence Day on October 10. When Mao's army took over China in 1949 they declared the end of a "Century of humiliation" (1839 - 1949), determined to move forward free from foreign domination. Mao went to Russia, met with Stalin, did not go back to see him again, but secured their future cooperation to keep other foreign powers influence away. This cooperation paid off in June 1950 when China invaded Korea with the backing of Russia's military support.
