GuestHello, I am Erica Goebel, an English, 9 - 12th grade, teacher at Downtown Magnets High, on the edge of downtown.
I heard about the institute from a teacher who went through the program and raved about it. I'm joining on class late, but looking forward to catching up.
This is my 9th year teaching. Coincidentally, I just checked out Lisa See's latest novel -- the continuation of Shanghai Girls characters -- titled Dreams of Joy. The main character has travelled to China to track down her father during the Revolution.February 24, 2012 at 1:32 pm #20819Anonymous

I had so much fun learning last time and came up with so many good ideas for lessons I could use with my students that I decided to take the class a second time.February 27, 2012 at 10:19 pm #20820Anonymous

I teach American Lit/Contemp Comp this year
My main interest in the class is in terms of language just because I'm always interested in exploring language. I feel like as China and the US continue to build their relationship to each other, language will be increasingly importantFebruary 29, 2012 at 7:43 am #20821Anonymous

GuestMy name is Benjamin De Leon and here is a little bit about me:
- I currently teach Modern World History and Honors Modern World History at West Adams Preparatory High School in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles (in between Koreatown and South Los Angeles). I have previously taught Government/Economics, U.S. History, and three electives: Business Management/Entrepreneurial Studies, Sociology, and Media Studies.
- I am very excited about this class. I have been fortunate enough to have traveled around Asia. A couple of years ago I traveled to Korea on a study trip through the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Korea Foundation. When the program ended, I extended my stay in Asia for an extra week and half, hopping on over to Japan. This past summer I traveled to the Philippines and Thailand. Each of these trips and experiences have been utterly incredible and have added to my life - both personally and professionally - in so many ways. I hope to learn much from this seminar (I already am!) and bring back to my classroom all of the new information and knowledge that I am learning.
Cheers!

My name is Kamesh Aysola
Happily live and work at Lawrence Middle School (LMS) teaching Science to 6-8 graders.
Previously taught History and Math to the same grades at LMS.
Besides, elected to the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council and Secretary of Van Nuys High School Magnet Parents Association.

KeymasterHello everyone,
Welcome to the web discussion forum for the USCI/NCTA Spring 2012 "East Asia Since 1800" seminar at UTLA!
This is a space in which we can all get acquainted prior to the seminar. To that end, it would be great if you can reply to this post and provide the following:
1. Your name
2. Your school and teaching assignment
3. A photo (if you so desire; see attached "Using the Web Forum Guide" for detailed instructions)
4. Anything else about yourself that you would like to shareWe will be posting information relevant to the seminar here, so please check in regularly. Also, for the ease and convenience of all forum users, please limit the number of new threads you create. If something can be shared, discussed or expanded upon under an existing thread, let's do so.
Thank you for your consideration, and welcome to the forum!
