Wow I had no idea. Why don't we hear of these things in our prime time media?

Is there religious or cultural significance to the use of fire in protest? I spoke to several social science teachers on my campus and they were explaining to me that during the Vietnam War, Buddhist protesters practiced immolation as well as a testimony to their faith. Their "internal fire" cannot be extinguished and their beliefs will go on, even though they are being persecuted. I found this interesting and it made more sense to me after reading the article.

How does this solve the problem of inequality?

It seems that the Chinese government has had a difficult time understanding that in order for their minority groups to stop protesting, the Tibetans should be allowed to have full autonomy and respect for their cultural heritage and religion. Recently there was another report of a Tibetan teen immolating himself to protest Chinese policies against Tibetans and this will continue until China's institutes reforms in this regard.
