I love that music can surpass all color lines and nationalities. It ignites the senses in all of us that unite us all!

The value of soft power is that it works subliminally. The idea that you can watch or hear something and adopt it as your own underscores the true value of soft power. When you can embrace something without thinking about its origins, then it truly has a universal appeal. I remember when interest in martial arts was the craze because of actors like Bruce Lee. Watching one of his movies made you have instant respect for Chinese people and their culture. Young kids all over the world wanted to be like Bruce. When soft power captures the imagination of large numbers of people, they ultimately strive to learn more about whatever it is that captivates them.

I wonder... The art of the American flash mob ended up all over the world. That's American culture spreading throughout the globe! Pretty cool. Just saying...

After watching a school full of young Chinese students dancing to Michael Jackson’s Dangerous or an elderly Chinese woman dancing her heart out to Michael Jackson I wonder if greater thought can be given to the power of “soft power” as a way of bridging people together rather than the tired and worn ways of hostilities. I wonder if, however, Michael Jackson’s appeal is removed from his “American” persona and if he has somehow transcended national identification or if he is accepted aboard as another American export. I can think of several cartoons that I watched as a child that I had no idea where Japanese and simply accepted them as American.
