There are continuing articles about the "sabre-rattling" going on between India and China in Indian news-media regularly which are presenting lot of computations and permutations about how the U. S. is playing its 'India card' in trying to contain the growing influence and assertiveness of China. India is aggressively trying to bring its military might to match that of China as fast as it can.
I see a major difference between the military developments taking place in India and China - India is importing all major armaments from other countries (U.S. is benefiting from this to quite some extent) making itself dependent on other powers like Russia and the U. S.. Whereas China is developing its arsenal on its own through R & D and through espionage. In doing so, China is following centuries old dictum of Confucius to actively engage in espionage in preparing for war and also in trade!

Given what we have been discussing in class regarding the emergence of China as a formidable world power and the influence it will no doubt have over the region (a dominance that has already been felt and one that will only continue to expand) , I came across this timely article last night. For your reading pleasure:

Ironically while logging on to the internet I noted an article that indicated China is launching a space program, by all factors it appears as if China is pushing to become the first major economy to recover from the global downturn (Zhu, Understanding East Asia's Economic "Miracles, pg.68) and is projecting and planning for future domains on earth and space.
