I also noticed this event in the morning when I woke up. It is very reminiscent of the earthquake that hit China years back. Maybe even more similar to the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 and all the aid that came both from the US and other countries to help.
    Thanks for sharing iramos.

The number of people being found dead in Nepal is currently growing by almost 1000 people every few hours today. The total number mentioned in 3 different articles today went from 1000 to now closer to 4000 and is expected to continue growing. Curious if the number of people being trapped without help will equate to more deaths than those killed immediately.

usatoday.com has a really interesting article titled "5 Things to Know About the Nepal Earthquake," some of the comparisons to past earthquakes including damage and death tolls is really devastating.

Thanks for the USAtoday link, slemburg. Just checked up on the Guardian, and the number has gone up to 4000. Really awful news.

I had a discussion with my 5th graders about this in today's class. They were extremely shocked to hear the news. I'll show them the USA Today link so they can gain a bit more insight on how devastating this earthquake was. We are trying to think of ways to help out as a class...

Very sadden by the massive loss of life in Nepal. Hopefully the international community can arrive soon to render aid in all areas of need.

There have been several earthquakes lately. I cannot believe the devastation that the people in Nepal are experiencing. The images are horrific. My prayers go out to them.

Another huge earthquake just hit Nepal as of 5/12...a whooping 7.3. They're saying only about 40 people were killed from this one. We'll have to wait and hear for news. Here's an informative link from the Guardian.

Awful earthquake just hit Nepal. Thousands are reported to have died. The article states that Nepal is one of the most "ill-equipped" countries to have been hit with a major disaster. I wonder which countries will come to aid the country.
