Rolling stone Magazine +Madonna+ Psy was a phenomenal success because soft power anywhere can be a transformative, thunderous, life changing experience for all involved. Performing at Madison Square Garden signal “you have arrived” For Psy was a worldly debut and endorsement "Gangnam Style." at the top of his game. Likewise, for Madonna was an astute and enterprising business move, showing that she still has what it takes to stay popular and bankable, while at the same time conceding a rising star its place in the global pop arena.

K-Pop is a great dancer! The video is pretty good. Madonna knows how to stay relevant. I like that someone new is getting recognition and he seems like a true talent. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of this rising star.

Psy is hilarious and has created a new appreciation of the Korean pop culture to the youngerAmerican generation. I love to see my students more interested in Korean history just because they like this song. It looks likes Madonna likes the song too!

One of the things that stayed with me from the lecture last Monday on modern Korea was the westernization of the Korean culture. Photographs of caucasian/western influence in styles, appearance, decor, and music were just some examples. I recently read in an article from the BBC news, Asian section, that there is a decline in the number Buddhist monks in Korea. One monk's explanation was quoted. He said, "In an age of sex, smartphones and social freedoms, what motivates people to give up many of life's pleasures and spend their lives isolated from the world in quiet contemplation?". Buddhist monks have been met with much scandal in modern Korea, largely due to western influence.

Once again, Madonna ensures her relevance and capitalizes on the recent phenomenon Gangman Style.

I read an article from almost all Korean newspaper about Madonna and Psy. It was really a sensation among Koreans how K-Pop makes an impact even with Madonna.

Great book by T.R. Reid, a weekly commentator with National Public Radio and reporter for National Geographic and The Washington Post. He was a naval officer in the Vietnam conflict and majored in Latin and Greek at Princeton.

Reid reveals to us the fundamenta l"... shift in world history-a basic realignment of global stature and political power that will change the way the world has worked for the past 500 years." Reid emphasizes that the economic and political transformation has turned Asian from "...a bystander to a major player in global economics and politics..."
