    Sounds good! I'm taking my iPad, iphone, shuffle, camera, and tiny travel hair dryer that I probably won't use much. And chargers. Oh...and more then one memory card for my camera.

    Seems like the two of you have the electronics angle all figured out. I'm not sure how much technology I'll take, but it won't rival what either of you are taking. I still haven't figured out if I'll take my phone, but I probably will take a camera.

    I don't use technology just because the its there, I use technology because it performs a function. If technology can make my life easier, faster, better, more fun, then I use it. And in keeping with moore's law I don't purchase it a second sooner than I need.

    Case in point my notebook computer . It's an old computer that is a dual core intel chip only use for emailing, writing reports, letters and watching movies. my students wanted me to scrap it and get a new fancy netbook. My question to that is why? my old notebook performes all of my functions, a netbook will just performed the same functions faster. So the correct answer is just a speed up my old notebook.

    So I upgraded to an open source software Ubuntuto and a solid state hard drive.

    I did a lot of research on smartphones. I have the motorola android phone which I love it's fantastic. It does a lot of functions that my notebook computer used to do. Unfortunately if you're traveling with your smartphone and you have a data plan you will be hit with a huge bill. There are travellers with horror stories about a 400 dollar phone bill.     sounds like a lot to travel with. I am more on line with straylor - maybe a phone, definately a camera with extra memory.

    I'm bringing a camera, small travel hair dryer, and my cell phone. However, I will check with AT&T about using it out of the country. Maybe there is a short use plan that is inexpensive. I don't want to be hit with a surprise bill upon returning home.

    Thanks for the reminder to call AT&T! Yes, they do have a short use plan for international calling as well as data. And, by the way, don't forget to call your bank and or credit card company's fraud division to let them know you will be using your card(s) in China and Taiwan.

    I am a teacher that loves technology, but uses technology when its appropriate.

    • I am taking my notebook computer, that I upgraded to a Solid State Hard drive and runs Ubuntu operating system.
    • I have back up batteries for the notebook and the other devices, phone, kindle and my camera.
    • My kindle has all of the books that I need to do any research that I need.
    • My Motorola phone runs android operating system with Skype on wireless to make calls to the US.
