If you enjoy non-fiction, I would suggest you read "Wild Swans."

I just reread Amy Tan's Saving Fish from Drowning. Not so much on China, but a lot on travel missteps due to ignorance of another culture.

I really enjoyed books by James Calvell, Noble House and Tia Pan.

Does anyone have suggestions of books I can read to get in the mood for the trip?

I am currently reading (okay, listening to) The Search for Modern China by Jonathan D. Spence. What an exceptional book about histrorical China dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Not only is it extremely informative, but very entertaining as well. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in China or traveling to China in the neaer future.
