I have the pleasure of touring the French Rivera as I write this. Yesterday, the tour of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild highlighted the amazing expanse of art collections she accumulated. A Chinese screen dating from the 18th century, I believe, was utterly beautiful and was used to separate a hallway passage from another area of the villa. To think the 18th century is not so long ago as compared to what we will see this summer in person, made me doubly excited to tour China and Taiwan. And to think of just how big the world was back then, for this wealthy lady to be able to pick and choose pieces from all over the world, as compared to the speed of purchase and delivery of today with amazon and ebay is fun to think about.
