Read an interesting article on Yahoo about a resurgence of Confucian ideas in modern China. He is being quoted in books, films, TV, and classrooms. Recently more than 200 statues of Confucius have been unveiled, culminating in a "mammoth" sculpture placed in Tianenmen Square, ironically facing in the direction of Mao's portrait. The article goes on to say that this is particularly noteworthy because Mao spent much of his rule destroying traditional culture of which Confucianism was a key element. For whatever reason, this seems to be an about-face for the Chinese leadership.
