    I must concur. LAPL.ORG offers a wealth of databases available to the public as long as you have a current library card. I have used the photo data bases as primary documents in my US history classes. The Central Library has an amazing collection of books for all ages. There is also a branch in Little Tokyo that I imagine is a treasure trove of resources for FREE.

    This past weekend I went to the regional library in Montebello with my nephew. He is doing a project on Japan. I was AMAZED at the amount of resources it has on Asia. It has the largest Asian Pacific Resource Center. It has videos, magazine, newspapers, reference materials, and popular books (Twilight and Harry Potter) translated into Asian languages. It has other things too that I forget at the moment. There is art work on display and helpful awareness informatin for the public. The workers are very friendly and informative. It is worth a visit. Due to budget cuts, the hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 10 to 8, and Saturday from 8 to 6.
    Across the street, there is a park where older people practice tai chi three days a week in the mornimg.

    Because of the rich ethnic heritage that characterizes Los Angeles, I have found an almost infintite number of cultural resources that are readily available to students such as our group who are learning about Asian cultures. I appreciate being made aware of this particular one because it is located very near my residence. For those who may have the bounty of traveling to China (PRC) in the future, there is a museum located near Zhu Hai that is entirely dedicated to the conflict between China and the European and American interests during the Opium Wars.
