Thanks for the information. I also watched the video clip you recommended on youtube. I guess many Japanese still associate body tattooing as a gangster or "Yakuza" activity. As a result, many Japanese hide their horimono (full-bodied Japanese tattooing)
The negative association of tattooing probably arises from the practice of the Japanese government tattooing criminals in prisons. It was interesting to see how the young man in the video wants to change the negative perception of the body tattooing.

Thanks for the correct spelling of the names, in addition I think originally tattooing was a considered a bit taboo here in America also associated with criminals and sailors etc...I think the trend is changing here and in Japan. I would not consider full body tattooing however I do like and can appreciate it. What a wonderful art form.

In the video on full body tattooing, I was quite surprise to learn of the high expenses associated with tattooing.Tattooing in Japan and America still seem to have a negative stigma. In the 1800's the Japanese government tatt ooed criminals so that society would recognize offenses committed by individuals.Criminals then used body tattooing as art to hide the negative stigmas.

I am fascinated about the history of tattooing and interestingly enought Japan has a significant influence, known as the masters of full body tattooing. I reviewed a u-tube video called Full Body Tattoo by National Geographic. Fascinationg regarding the history of tattoo in Japan and what one artist is attempting to change the negative connotation of tattooing in Japan. I think the idea of tatooing is changing world-wide and I remember seeing a program regarding the full-body tattoo artists that people pay thousands of dollars and travel from all over the world. If at all intersted view the video it's great!

I went to get a tattoo when I was in China and couldn't find any place. To be honest, i was looking at many other activities in my 2 weeks, and I expected signs of some sort. So I counted arms with tattoos. I saw 9 men, and 2 women with ink, none large, all around tiny 2 inch designs. When I returned home I asked CHinese kids why that would be. "It's the skin our parents gave us so there is some disrespect in defacing it."
After my experience in China, I think that's a plausible answer as any.
