Unarguably, this is the most difficult dilemma any human being can be in. However, as a legalist I must remain loyal to the State – The State is my father and China is my mother. My loyalty; therefore, belongs to China. Not only because it is the duty of every responsible citizen to abide by the law, but also because covering up for my father would make me a law-breaker too. I’m not his judge, but I don’t want to have the remorse of being his accomplice either.

My father broke the law and we all understand that a punishment must follow. I ask only that I, his daughter, receive the same or a harsher punishment. This way the people will see that if you break the law not only will you be punished but a member of your family will also be punished. This additional punishment may restore some lost honor to my family as well. So the people will know we are truly remorseful. I beg of you to give me a punishment along side of my father as it would be an honor to be corrected by my State. If the punishment be death, let me die along side of him. If the punishment be to chop off his hand, chop off my hand too. I do not plead to your mercy, realizing, as I do that mercy for the people makes for a weak state. I only plead for the punishment to be doubled as my family bears the shame and wants to correct it.

In order for our state to be well ordered, we MUST uphold the public law...and if that means punishing my father and NOT letting off the hook b/c he's my father...SO BE IT!!. It is more important to enrich the state than it is to benefit each of our family members. Therefore, though it would hurt me as the son of the one being punished...punish my father. Punish him to the fullest extent of the law.

As a Leaglist, I am comitted to up holding the laws of the land. Without laws and regulations we will have dis-order and anarchy. Every one must know the laws and follow them, including myself and my family. I will not not protect any one who knowingly breaks the law, including my Father. If we, as a state allow law breakers to go unpunished then how can we maintain law and order? All law breakes must be punished so that others will not do the same. On the other hand, those that follow the laws should be rewarded. This form of punishment and reward will help the state maintain harmony for everyone.
