Dr. Yamashita has helped me to open my understanding the hisory of Japan. Looking forward to learn more from him. His book should be interesting to read. Thank you. V. Recalde

I had the same experience, his insight and his knowledge really helps put things in perspective.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Yamashita's lecture. He made the content relevant and allowed us to ask questions and engage in dialogue. I also love that we both had to commute from Claremont...

I agree and am also looking forward to reading his book. I read the young girl’s diary we were assigned for homework. It was moving. It got me thinking of the Japanese leader’s quote after America retaliated for Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." This quote, with Dr. Dube's statement regarding people sleeping with their feet facing their enemies for generations before they were able to avenge themselves, reminds me that fiercely independent nations who have suffered many infractions remember the wrongs done to them.

Eyewitness perspectives are invaluable. We have just finished reading Night and my students were moved to tears when they listened to the actual survivors tell their stories.
