I find Confucianism interesting. Some people rule by provoking fear (Legalists). Others rule by attempting to earn respect and love (Confucians). Confucius stressed virtues and righteous living which he maintained should start in the home. He believed in 5 main relationships. Familial relationships being the most important. Confucius believed that people were fundamentally good and that with strong role models would partake in building a virtuous society. Confucians were very traditional and focused on education, particularly music, literacy and fine arts.

I think it's interesting how Confucius teachings are still widely practiced in the Chinese culture today. Of the 4 schools of Philosophy, I see Confucianism the most among the Chinese, even here in the US. For example, the five relationships: father/son, husband/wife, older brother/younger brother, ruler/subject, friend/friend are still commonly practiced in Chinese families. I also see ancestor worship regularly, as well. When I go to my friends' houses, it's typical see to see large portraits of deceased grandparents hanging on the walls. When I go to the cemetery to put flowers on my grandfather's grave or my husband's grandmother and grandfather's grave, there are always Chinese families burning incense, bowing, bringing food to their ancestor's grave. It seems like Confucius' teachings have made a bigger impact on the Chinese culture than the other philosophies.

By the way, good job on the debate, group! I thought we did well. :o)

I too think we did well, especially after the very first question that came our way, and none of us knew how to respond. =) I found it insightful at the very end to all respond to the same question, in writing, in our philosophical viewpoint. That to me, made the most sense, and really equalized the four philosophies.
