Thank you for sending me the Asia Newsletter. It has a lot of interesting information. I was especially interested in the fact that the Asia Art Museum has teaching supplements available for check out. I have used the Museum of NAtural History's check outs several times in the past. (The skeleton remains of prehistoric hominids were great.) I didn't know that the Asian Art Museum also offered that service. Their Brush Painting kit lloks like it would be prefect for ancient China. They sell a couple of kits for $25.00, but I would like to see them before I purchase them. Has anyone from our class ever gotten any of the materials from the Asian Art Museum?

    With regards to museums:
The Bowers museum in Santa Ana has an exhibit on items from the silk road. I went this weekend and saw tons of artifacts from the silk road and before. There were TONS of artifacts: travel documents, tons of clothing, brushes, sculptures, and even two mummies. IT was interesting because they looked different from Egyptian mummies. They looked different because these mummies died in the winter and froze and as they thawed out they mummified instead of using chemicals. There is also an exhibit on Asian art with jade, bronze, pottery etc. Very cool. And it's free the first Sunday of every month. Also, if you are taking your class here, there is a ton of teacher information for you to use.

The mummies sound fascinating. Thank you for letting me know. I think my husband and I will have to go and check this out. I know my student will be interested in going as well -they are always fascinated by the idea of mummies.
