I love this class. I have learned so much more about Japan in the last few weeks than in my entire life. I have learn about the Pacific war things that in our US history books never talk about. I can see why. There is not enough time to cover everything that went on during this war in one class. The presenter does a great job in delivering the material and keeps me engage the entire time.javascript:insertsmilie('%20:-D%20')

Of all the countries that we have reviewed Japan was the one I knew the most about prior to our class. What is particularly fun for me is in the last class we reviewed subjects that I can actually remember. Yes, I saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl so this is a period of history that makes me smile. On some level of course I resist the notion that anything I remember is "history" however discussing the clash of modern protest and traditional values during this time was a theme that was occurring here in the U.S. as well. For me personally I would add that as students we felt it was our responsibility to speak out. At the time it felt like at this age this is what you do. What is surprising to me is that the following generations did not do this. So the fact that students in Japan were protesting was something we could relate to.

Very interesting. I always kind of thought that young people do rebel- against whatever their parents were for- so that explains the "me" generation of the 80's following the 60's and 70's, but I see your point. I always always kind of held the competing notion that its the young people who have the courage to act for what we all know to be right- but is that really true?

Food for more thought later, my brain is presently full.
