I was in San Francisco this weekend and saw the Shanghai Exhibit at the Asian Art Museum. It was very well done, covering Shaghai history from the early 19th century to the present. It included painting, scuptor, magazines, fashion & theater. Historically, it didn't do much in the way of covering Western imperialism or the opium trade, but it did remind me that China was one of the only countries that took in the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Artistically, it was a beautiful sampling of Asian art in many different forms over a 200 year period. Of course, it could not do the time period justice, but it was very enjoyable, and I would reccommend a visit to anyone who is headed to San Francisco.
