PART ONE: On Dec. 30, 2007 the L.A. Times reported the arrest of one of China's leading web dissidents, Hu Jia (34).Hu and his wife, Zhen Jin-yan, have been previously arrested for blogging on the internet about the treatme3nt of AIDS patients and the status of the Tibetan antelope. The police burst into their apartment and arrested Hu while his wife was bathing their newborne child, confiscated their computer memory sticks, and documents, and disconnected their phone and internet connections.
PART TWO: In the beginning of April 2008 Hu Jia was sentenced to Three and a half years in prison for "inciting subversion of state power". His lawyer was repeatedly interrupted and was not allowed to finish his defense of Hu.
PART THREE: On May 9 the L.A. Times reported that an 'Olympic pardon' was being spught for Hu, prisoners still in jail from the 1989 Tiananmen protests [Yes they are still in jail after almost 20 years!] and poeople conviicted of being 'hooligans' or 'counter revolutionaries'. These charges were dropped from the criminal code in 1997...TEN YEARS AGO!
China was awarded the 2008 Olympics with the understanding that they would improve the human rights of their citizens.?!?!
