Our May 3 Human Rights workshop is not LAUSD point eligible, but the wisdom and insight that will be gained following your attendance will be worth its weight in salary points, we promise.

Information on the workshop can be found at http://china.usc.edu/ShowArticle.aspx?articleID=977[Edit by="miranda k on Apr 24, 5:43:33 PM"][/Edit]

I agree, Miranda. It is an area that is rarely covered in general discussions of Human Rights here in America. I've not seen it discussed openly in a non-school setting. "Facing History & Ourselves" is another great organization that offers teachers lesson topics, ideas, plans, and forums on diverse Histories of people in relation to civil rights, human rights, and violations of such throughout the world. Has anyone else heard of this organization? I highly recommend it.

Not only do they invite History teachers and others to lectures and panel discussions on civil/human rights issues such as civil rights movements, holocausts, genocides, and the like; but they also encourage attendees to look inwardly at how we teach our children these issues. One example is a discussion of the Japanese concentration camps in the U.S. Another was the PBS documentary "Eyes on the Prize". In each event they had speakers who had survived the experience!

    Golden opportunity!
