KeymasterMy family owns two Toyotas currently, and have had other Toyotas previously, and we've been a Toyota fan for a long time, and it's a shame to see Toyota's handling of the current recall crisis...
"Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, today bowed to US pressure and agreed to attend a congressional hearing next week over the safety recall of more than 8.5m cars.
Toyoda had initially planned to send the firm's North American chief executive, Yoshimi Inaba, to address the House oversight and government reform committee on Wednesday.
His change of mind came amid pressure from New York Democratic congressman Edolphus Towns, who told Toyoda in a letter that American drivers were "unsure as to what exactly the problem is, whether it is safe to drive their cars, or what they should do about it."
Toyoda faces a barrage of criticism in the US over his handling of the recall, which has prompted government investigations, lawsuits and temporary factory closures amid plummeting sales."

GuestI do have been a long time Toyota fan. Ive only owned Toyotas, except for our GMC envoy. I currently drive a Prius and I absolutely love it. I love everything about it, except its shape, which is why its so practical. My Prius hasnt been "recalled" but I imagine that thousands of other consumers are not happy with the whole ordeal. Federal prosecutors have launched an investigation into the matter, which cares heavy fines and possibly prosecution (jail time) for some Toyota executives in Japan and the United States. The government is looking into product safety violation laws, where Toyota made false statements to the public. Still, Toyota has some of the best customer satisfaction records, and some fewer accidents than many other vehicles. I hope and am sure the company will regain its status soon. And as the wisest consumer that I can be, I will buy Toyota stock tomorrow after the hearings, the stock most surely will be at its lowest in years.

GuestYou say Toyota I say Toyoda!
I have heard several different explanation from talk radio on why Toyota dropped the D and gained a T. Some say it is easier for westerners to say the T. Others say "toyoda" means a plant that has died so bad for business. Does anyone REALLY, and I mean REALLY know why the company and family name were changed?February 25, 2010 at 10:07 am #29187Anonymous
GuestBad time for Toyota. I wonder how much of Congress is posturing for the "buy American lobby and how much is genuine concern for American safety. If it were the latter, wouldn't the NHTSA be "invited" to Congress also for the investigation?
