KeymasterWith so many replies to the thread "What Asian food inspires you?" I wanted to know if anyone is interested in going out and exploring Asian food, particularly Korean food since UTLA is in the heart of Koreatown. There are many great restaurants in this are and it would be fun to have a big group of us get together to experience some of the delicious delicacies offered. A bunch of us explored Japantown in our last seminar and we had a great time. Reply to the thread if interested. And Patricia, I'm counting on you to gather some people! Thanks! - Sarah E.

GuestThat sounds great. Let me know, you can never truly learn about other cultures unless you explore a very important component its food!. There is much about Korean food that I have not explored I am open to suggestions

GuestI'm excited about the impressions each person would have about different dishes -- having been accustomed to the spices and tastes of Asian cuisine, I don't know what kind of palate a person not having grown up with Asian cuisine would experience. It's definitely a fun way to have an international exchange. I hope more people can make it and I can't wait for further posting.

GuestI would love to! I'm never in Korea town except for this class! In grad school I lived with a girl who had lived in Korea for 2 years. We used to go out for Korean food all the time and I'm just now realizing how much I miss it. I need to find a place with some delicious bulgogi!
Yelp to the rescue!
We should definitely do a dinner after our last meeting here!

GuestHas anyone checked out the rise of food trucks cruising Los Angeles? Many are a mix of Asian fusion and a quite simply, remarkable. You can get a list of those roaming our streets and what and where they are by googling "Elina-shatkin's list of Nouveau Food Trucks"
Try it - you will be HAPPILY surprised!January 20, 2010 at 7:01 am #29356Anonymous
GuestWow, Stan I tried your google the other day, I got it from another friend. It was great! On a corner in Santa Monica, four trucks came and there were two Sushi options and one indian as well as a Mexican option. I tried the Sushi. It was awesome, I highly recommend it. Also, there are alot of great restaurants around the UTLA building. The place downt he street on the corner was great! That's the food I had last tuesday night in class.[Edit by="dtorres on Jan 20, 3:11:16 PM"][/Edit]

GuestThe Kal-bi and Kogi trucks are a booming business--it's not surprising that the food business consists of a combination of Mexican/Korean cuisine to meet the needs of the population in Los Angeles. I also hear that this trend is also making headway into the San Francisco and NY areas. The food is delicious and well-priced. I've noticed more trucks of such nature on the rise--it's practically on many corner streets. If you are in Koreatown and in the 3rd Street and the Western arena, you will see lots of vendors like these.

GuestThat Kogi truck is the bomb! Stan and I were at the Japanese American Museum for a teacher event and they had the Kogi truck cater Asian tacos--they were unbelievable. I was just glad we didn't have to stand in huge line that formed as soon as the truck pulled up. If you get a chance, try it.
