    Hello again!

For those of you who will be teaching World History, PBS has a wonderful video under the Empires Series titled "Japan: The Memoirs of a Secret Empire." The video is broken up into 3 different parts of which all could be used to cover many aspects of Japanese history. For example, part one focuses on medieval/feudal Japan, while the second focuses on the rise of the Tokugawa period, and last of all the third hits on the arrival of foreigners to Japan. Of all 3 parts, I feel that the last one is the best, especially because it has 7-8 minute clips that solely focus on the Dutch arrival/influence in Japan, the Ukiyo-e or floating world, and the arrival of Commodore Perry to Japan. I truly feel that it visually allows us and our students to understand the magnitude and importance of such periods of history.

    Manuel 😀
