    Hello again!

The link below will take you to an interesting article/essay that I found regarding the Cultural Revolution. The article was presented at the Association of Asian studies meeting in 1997, and although it is over 10 yrs. old, I feel that it provides us with some interesting insight as to how social norms and historically ingrained Confucianist principles of respecting your elders were thrown out the door during the Cultural Revolution. The article goes on to explain the history behind the research, but also goes on to explain the disturbing nature as to how regular teachers were attacked by students. Some of the accounts are heinous and almost unbelievable, but from a historical perspective it teaches us an unknown piece of this period. From tortures, beatings and public humiliations, it goes to show that the Red Guards would stop at nothing to carry out their Mao-inspired plans.

    Manuel 😀
