Hello again!
For those that are interested in reading about the Mongols, I would recommend Jack Weatherford's "Genghis Khan & the Making of the Modern World." The book is a 300 pg. survey of that focuses on the rise of the Mongols, beginning with the rise of the young Temujin. That book gives the reader a good sense of what the Mongols were like in their lifestyle, customs, and military practices. Although the book is named as such, Genghis Khan is the focus of the 1st half of the book until Weatherford kills him off and focuses on the power vacuum/struggle that ensues following GK's death. Subsequently, he focuses on Kubiliai Khan and his reign all the way to the final portion of the Mongol empire. Maybe, you'll consider it for your personal summer reading, or even for your students (although it can be slightly dry at times).
