KeymasterHello everyone,
Welcome to the 2008 USCI Summer Residential Seminar web discussion forum!
This is a space in which we can all get acquainted prior to the seminar. To that end, it would be great if you can reply to this post and provide the following:
1. Your name
2. Your school and teaching assignment
3. A photo (if you so desire)
4. Anything else about yourself that you would like to share with the 25 other teachers and assorted USCI crew (me, my USCI colleague Venus Saensradi and Linda Truong and our Associate Director Clayton Dube) with whom you will be spending nine days next month. We will be posting information relevant to the seminar in the coming weeks, so please check in regularly. Also, for the ease and convenience of all forum users, please limit the number of new threads you create. If something can be shared, discussed or expanded upon under an existing thread, let's do so.
Thank you for your consideration, and welcome to the forum!
-Miranda

GuestHello, my name is Maria La Costa and I'm a 9th grade RSP teacher at Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School (Cabrillo High) in the beautiful city of Long Beach. I am a reading intervention teacher, which simply put means that I teach students the skills they need to become fluent readers. I'm married and have four sons (20, 18, 9, 7). I was born in Mexico and I love to learn from other cultures and meet people. I have a master's degree in education and I am bilingual as well (Spanish/English). I am very excited about the seminar and taking what I learn to my classroom. Enjoy your summer and see all of you soon.
Take Care,

GuestHi everyone, I am Mary Stark. I can not seem to post my getting aquainted in the correct spot, so I will do it as a reply. I work in Barstow Ca @ the intermediate school (a 5th & 6th grade site). I am a special needs teacher who is using the ExCel model. This basically means that I teach language arts to the 60 lowest 6th grade students at our school. These students may or may not be on an IEP.
I am married with three children who range in age from 21 to 33. The oldest of which will be leaving for his second term in Iraq as we begin our classes. So, if I get a call from him at the seminar I will be answering my phone
. I also have two granddaughters from my oldest.
I enjoy working and playing. I hope to learn a lot from this seminar and hope to investigate the surrounding areas at night after we do our work. I do not do photos but you'll recognize me. I will be the tallest, thinnest, youngest, and most beautiful participant (antonyms are they not wonderful?) in the class. Looking forward to meeting you all.

GuestHi, My name is Vera Chiu. I teach Chinese at Oaks Christian at Westlake Village. I am married and have two teenage boys (16 and 14 years old). I am very excited to join this seminar, but in the meantime have "separation anxiety" with my family for almost two whole weeks. This summer will be quite hectic. I will be teaching this summer until 7/25. Then this seminar will start. After this seminar, our school, Oaks Christian, will start on 8/15. Please pray for me for my physical strength as well as mental sharpness. Thank you.
