GuestThank you for letting us all take this class. I am looking forward to getting an indent look at China in the 20th century. This is a great follow up to last years class. This year I have many students that either come from or have parents who came from China in my class. I a great full for the opportunity to learn about their home environment. I have mentioned the information on communism and Mao in my class and often compare it in theory to the ideologies of the United States and democracy.

GuestThank you Clay, Barbara, Rosemary, Miranda and visiting professors for allowing us the opportunity for professional growth and enlightenment on Modern East Asia. It is amazing and I feel so fortunate to be able to participate in a lecture series of this caliber. I look forward to learning about current topics in Asia. So often Social Studies programs and teachers have difficulty connecting the past to the present. This seminar will hopefully clarify current issues so that I can make connections to the past and my students can develop a greater awareness and appreciation for the study of Asian history and current events and issues.

GuestThank you, Michael and Edessa, for your kind words. As you know, this is the first time that we are offering a seminar focused on modern East Asia, and so we thank all of you for helping to steer us in that direction and opening up what will hopefully be a continuing opportunity for other teachers in subsequent seminars.
Thank you, also, for your patience as we work to finalize details on scheduling speakers, organizing seminar materials and planning field trips. This is still very much a work in progress that, and with your encouraging input, is shaping up to be a seminar we are very proud of and look forward to continuing in the future.

GuestThank you, arigato gozaimasu and xie xie for the opportunity to study with Professor Dube and the guest lecturers in the East Asian Forum. My gratitude to Rosemary and Barbara is also extended as they are the team behind the education of the teachers from the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. We are so fortunate to be able to have this forum as a way to gain valuable insight into the culture and lives of our East Asian students in the district. Last year was my first year in the forum and I had so much to learn but this year feels like the year that I can really dive into the process and bring it back directly to my students with even greater confidence and understanding. Miranda you are a marvel with your organization and communication skills. We are fortunate to have you at the helm of the classroom business. 😀 -Susan Pavelka Gregg

GuestI'm so enjoying all I'm learning in the class. The questions people have asked have been extremely helpful in helping me understand more about China and other parts of Asia, about which I really knew very little up until now. Thanks for giving us this unique and timely opportunity!

GuestThis class has given me many "thinking" moments as to the diversity between the Chinese, Korean and Japanese cultures. It has certainly raised my level of awareness and understanding of the differences between the groups. I find the history discussions fascinating - particularly because so much of my understanding comes from the teachings of an American high school system which by its nature can be quite limiting. The forum is a great tool to compare ideas and discuss our understandings. What a highlight to my school year! Thank-you.

GuestI read Asia newspaper for the date May 2, 2008. There is an exciting news that the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana is offering four full scholarships for Yokohama City University's intensive summer science program in Japan. Students will study marine biology in Japan at Yokohama City University. If anyone want the students to apply it, you will need to get May 2 Asia newspaper for more detail.[Edit by="ganderson on May 8, 5:53:35 AM"][/Edit]
