This is what might be of interest for those who might want to venture to Long Beach.

The Cambodian Coordinating Council (Cam-CC) would like to invite you to join the 3rd Annual Cambodian New Year Parade and Celebration on Saturday, April 7, 2007 in Long Beach, California.

The Parade opening ceremony will start at 9:30 am on the corner of Junipero Avenue and Anaheim Street. The Parade will then proceed West on Anaheim Street through the "heart" of the Cambodian Community now nicknamed "Cambodia Town", to MacArthur Park where a festive celebration with live bands, multi-ethnic dance groups, children's games, food, craft and vendors will take place from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The Parade theme is "Building the Bridge to the Future Together" in recognition of the diversity of the Long Beach residents who have united to build a better city for all to enjoy.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I have been wanting to go to the Cambodian New Year celebration for the past few years and havent' been able to do it. I think this is the year that I will finally make it. Thanks for the reminder.

Y'all should definitely come to Cambodian New Year. The only drawback is the fact that you have to pay an entrance fee of $20 if you want to attend the El Dorado Park New Year celebration. However, once you do, you get to watch cultural performances and dances, attend various booths (including the religious booth where the monks chant; games for children), eat food {not free, of course} and most importantly, celebrate the Cambodian culture. If you don't like it, go to the Nature Center across the street. That's cool, too.

The Cambodian New Year's Parade is a smaller affair which is intimate but worthwhile to attend. Come out to Long Beach!

It is in Long Beach, but check the website and you find it is Mac Arthur Park near Long Beach City College Pacific Coast Campus. There is no mention of a fee for entering the park. I guess that means even more reason to come.

There usually is a parade and celebration that occurs separately on different days. If everything is planned like previous years, there is also a big New Year's celebration @ El Dorado part. I'll check with Cam-CC for any additional news and on whether there are any other celebrations elsewhere.
