KeymasterThe Chinese have a rich tradition of mythology. Beginning in the 3rd century A.D. Chinese writers invented many stories about gods, heroes, and ghosts.Beginning in the 3rd century A.D. Chinese writers invented many stories about gods, heroes, and ghosts. One favorite Chinese myth tells the story of the creation of the world by the god Pan Gu. In the beginning of the universe the universe was like an egg, and inside this egg was chaos, or a state of confusion. One day after sleeping inside the egg for 18,000 years Pan Gu woke up and cracked the egg. By separating the light parts from the heavy parts he created the heavens and the Earth. After Pan Gu died, his breath became the wind and the clouds, his voice became thunder, and one eye became the sun and the other the moon.

GuestThe story farewell to poverty by Han Yu seems to teach a moral. I wonder if the moral is that a person cannot get rid of poverty or that there are different things that contributes to a person's povertyor could it also be that poverty can be a blessing?Anthlogy of Chinese Lit.page244

GuestThere is another story that I wonder about in the Chinese anthology. This story Peach Blossom Spring tells about a fisherman that found an isolated village filled with a group of chinese people who ran away from the trobles from the age of Ch'in.They were detached from the outside world and were not even aware of what year it was.The fisherman gave them updates of what was going on. When he left they asked him not let other people know that they exist. He went against there wish and tried to mark the place but llike in the story of Hansel and Gretel, all traces wre wiped away.I wonder if those people were ever found?

GuestIt is known that in the Chinese culture nature was revered and appreciated but it was very ironical that Chang usedit as ameasuring to break up with Ying Yang.He compared her beauty to nature and its ever changing moods and appearance. He claimed that he believes in consistency and everything around him must remain constant. He said like nature her beauty will be distracting and might cause the downfalll of his kingdom as many other beautiful women have done to other rulers. The farewell letter they wrote to each other was touching. This can be found on page298and299

GuestFROM RAGS TO RICHES IS A VERY FAMOUS STATEMENT.However in the story of Miss Li, it was from a prostitute to a noble lady. Love really took over and overcame the need to work in such a manner. She actually helped the nobleman to gain the respect he lost and went even higher than his original status.Chinese Anthology page 300.
