Shinto "The way of Gods"has been the major religion of Japan. This religion is very deeply rooted in japanese people & traditions. It is so natural & inbuilt in japanese people that there is no founder & no scriptures are availabel.Anything important to life can be a God in Shinto whom they call "Kami".Human being can be "Kami" after death.Shinto Shrines are places of worship & for celebrating festivals.Tradition & the family, love of nature ,physical cleanliness & worship are four basics of Shinto religion.

I have always been a bit suspicious of the idea that Shinto is a true religion. I am certainly not an expert on Shinto at all, but to me it has always seemed more an aspect of extreme Japanese nationalism than religion. I think Japanese nationalists hate the idea that much of Japanese culture (Budism, Chinese characters, the Imperial Family?) were foreign imports and wanted to create what essentially is a myth of an indigenous Japanese religion.
