History of Chinese Dynasties

Chinese history is divided into dynasties. Each dynasty is a period of time when one family was in power.

HSIA(XIA) 2000B.C.-1500B.C.-
Dynasty of China is founded.
Potter's wheel is introduced.
Farming begins.

SHANG 1500B.C.-1027B.C.- Horse-drawn chariots are used.
Bronze weapons are cast. Silk is made.
Carving is done in jade and ivory.
Historical records are carved on tortoise shells.

ZHOU(CHOU)1027B.C.-221B.C.-Multiplication tables are developed.
Casting of bronze and iron containers begins
Confucius introduces his theories.

CHIN 221B.C.-202 B.C.- Chopsticks are invented.
Great Wall is built.
Writing brush is used.
Weights and measures are standardized.
First emperor burns all books.

HAN 202 B.C.-A.D.220- Confucianism become state religion.
Foot stirrups, paper, wheelbarrow, and the
seismograph are invented.
The silk Road opens for trade with asia.

THREE KINGDOMS A.D.220-A.D.589-
China is divided into three kingdoms held by the
kings of Wei,Shu,andWu.
Buddhism inreasingly influences the country.

SUI A.D.589 -A.D.618- China is reunified during this short dynasty.

TANG A.D.618-A.D.960- Woodblock printing begins.
Porcelain is developed.
Highly cultural ere; poetryand education flourish.
Gunpowder is invented.

SUNG A.D.960-A.D.1271- Magnetic compass is invented.
Gunpowder is used in fireworks.
Landcape paintings are produced.
Moveable type is invented.

YUAN A.D.1271-A.D.1368- Foreign travel is banned.
Great Wall is restored.
Macro Polo of Venice visit and takes news of China back
to the world.

MING A.D.1368-A.D.1644- Blue and white porcelain is produced.
Art and literature flourish.

CHING A.D.1644-A.D.1912- China expands to Tibet,Mangolia ,andCentral China.
Red and green pottery glazes are developed.
Peking Opera is established.
