1. PAPER- Chinese were the first to invent paper made from pulp. Printing surfaces were already being made from silk fibers,but this method was expencive. An experiment in A.D. 105 with rags and plants mashed with water evolved into pressed sheets of paper. By A.D. 700, printing techniques had advanced to woodblock printing
2. Compass- the maritime compass was first used more than2,000 years ago, when the Chinese discovered that magnetite would point to a north-south direction automatically. thisenabled long-distance travel.
3. Wheelbarrow- Toiling in the field meant moving materials and tools to different places. In order to make better use of time, a wheeled cart was invented.
4. Umbrella- some simple Chinese inventions have proven through time to make life easier and more enjoyable.Some examples are umbrellas,eyeglasses,mechanical clocks and kites.
5. Earthquake Detector- The many earthquakes that struck China made it necessary to create a way to detect them. This was acieved in A.D. 132 with a bronze vase made of eight carved dragons, each with a ball in its mouth. The ball fell when the earth trembled!
