KeymasterThe Center for Disease Control has a special service for international travel information: call toll free 1-877-394-8747 or with your web browser, see CDC's Travel Advice at http://www.cdc.gov
If you belong to Kaiser Permanente, they have a Travel Advisory Service. I have received in the mail an RX for Cipro 500mg,and suggestions for non-prescription items to purchase (Imodium AD and Sawyer controlled-Release DEET or unscented insect releppent with less than 35% DEET). They have also recommended that I receive the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular Pertussis) and to update my Hepatitis A vaccine.
The number for the Kaiser Travel Advisory Service is 1-800-517-5556 and you'll need to have your medical record number available.

GuestJust read a bit of info on being foodwise and waterwise that gave a worthwhile quote: "BOIL IT, COOK IT, PEEL IT, OR FORGET IT!!!"

GuestI don't think we'll have to worry about Deet. It's too cold for the mosquitos now and we're not going towards China's tropical areas. Deet is pretty nasty too...very sticky and smelly.
As for food, I agree. I don't eat food in non-Western nations that hasn't been cooked. It's not that the food is unclean, we're just not used to it and the tiny little things that live on our uncooked food aren't the same little things that we eat everyday in California (yuch). What that really means to me is that I won't be eating any salads or drining drinks with ice in them. No big deal.
I've traveled a lot over the last 20 years and I haven't gotten sick yet. Another thing that I do is drink alcohol with meals. I hardly drink at all at home, but when I'm on the road that changes quite a bit! There's probably no science to it, but the alcohol may kill some off these ugly germs and hey...a few drinks here and there is kinda fun too! 😀Louis

GuestHwy Louis thanks for your advice on eating and drinking. Sounds like a plan. I have been reading that beer drinking in China is only second to tea. The German expatriots in China brought their best techniques to China. I guess we will have to test the Tsing Dao as a cultural experience. Sounds like fun to me.
