I wanted to add another museum that I went to a few ago with my Teaching American History cohort. The Mamie Clayton Library and Museum in Culver City has wonderful primary resources that Mamie Clayton, a former librarian collected from the African-American community in Los Angeles. It is located at an old courthouse, where they have kept part of it intact, to use for field trips. For example, the jail cell is being used to discuss the civil rights movement. We packed into the cell, and sang protest songs. It was very cool. I plan on taking my students there next semester. For more information, check out the following website: http://www.claytonmuseum.org. The address is 4130 Overland Blvd. Culver City, Ca 90230.
Also, in the November 11th, 2012, issue of the L A Times, there is an article about a Cold War Museum, also located in Culver City. The article discusses the need to move to a larger facility. The Wende Musuem is located at 5741 Buckingham and the website is http://www.wendemuseum.org. The article refers to it as one of LA's best kept secrets.
