2011 Earthquake / Tsunami

With so much loss and devastation in Japan right now, it seems a bit trivial to think about tourism. And yet when I look at some of the images and read the names of the places, I pause to wonder if the places I went to in 2008 are still there. The missing trains, monuments, people I might have encountered those years ago...I can certainly make a connection and have a more meaningful discussion with my students about the tragedy.
