GuestIt was odd for me to be going to LAX in the evening, which is when we met to leave for our 12:00 AM Flight. My usual trip would be going back east to New Jersey and I would be leaving early in the morning. I arrived at about 8:30 PM and it seemed that the Asiana Airline area was very empty. I wondered if I would even recognize anyone and was trying to remember faces as only Senju was with me in our USC/UTLA China class over a year before and I had only met the rest of our group for the one day preparation. I knew I would recognize Clay, of course, but I was feeling a little nervous if I would find everyone. But I looked over and saw some people that looked vaguely familiar, mainly because they were the only non Asians around. I met with Joe, Robin, Sally and then Lois and her husband. Then came the rest but we worried for one missing...hmmm....now was that Rudy? I cannot remember. But eventually every one of our group showed up and we began our journey. Usually, I travel alone and so it was oddly comforting to be traveling with a group (even if I didn't really know anybody that well.) I like Asiana Airlines and our flight was very comfortable! I slept for 6 hours straight on the way there!

GuestSince I got dropped off at the airport early, I was really happy to see other group members already there I could talk to. I hung out with Joe and Mary until Sally and others started coming. I remember feeling weird I didn't have my passport until Venus got there. I also wondered if I should exchange money. I think I was just really antsy to get the show on the road! I actually don't remember much about the flight to South Korea other than I kept falling asleep while trying to watch War Horse.

GuestAsiana airlines was super, and the Incheon airport quiet so early in the morning, but the lounge opened up for us and all was good. Our first beer with breakfast, well at least my first beer with breakfast. I like this time zone map that was in the airport, reminding me why I felt so tired......yet really excited

SpectatorFolks,
For each day of the study tour, please take a moment to record something you noted. Was it a story told? An experience shared? A person you met? Something you found or bought? Please take a moment to reflect on our shared adventure and write something for each day. Perhaps you have a photo to share or perhaps this was the day that you gained a particular insight. Or perhaps this was a day that you fought through illness to stay a part of things and to absorb what you could. Whatever it might be, please take a few moments while your memory is strong to share with others. In sharing you pound the memory deeper within yourself and in sharing you may gain an even sharper understanding about why it stuck with you, why it mattered.
You don't need to offer your comments in any particular order, but please do contribute at least one post for each day of the trip.
For me, this was the day we gathered to embark upon this trip. I didn't know any of you the way I do now. My life is richer for having had this opportunity to get to know each of you and to share this journey. Thank you.

GuestLike Robin, I felt strange and almost lost without my passport and was happy when Venus arrived. There was such a feeling of excitement in the air as we all gathered together to start our journey. It was almost as if we were going off to summer camp, only much more amazing. I have some photos of the group in Seoul, napping, trying the massage chairs, searching for internet access... all groggy after our flight but happy to be on our way.
