I am trying to figure out how to post photos here. Let's see if I can do it! I just wrote a paragraph or so on Pingyao and tried to attach photos and then the whole thing disappeared! Very frustrating! When I learn how to do this, I will write my comments.

    Hi Mary and all,

The system will time out if you start a message and take some time to complete it. I had that happen to me last night (on my post on Taiwan baseball: http://uschinaforum.usc.edu/topic450-sports--generating-interest-in-asia.aspx?Page=1#post21962 ). As Mary says, it is maddening. If you are writing a long message, I recommend writing it in Notepad or a word processor and pasting it in. This way you can also check spelling, etc without worries.

The way to post images or documents is to click on the "attach files" link that is below the post editing window:

When you click on that link, you are then able to browse the drives on your computer and attach files. There's a limit on the size of the files that can be uploaded and the number. I'll upload a beautiful picture that Mary took in Pingyao. To open it, just click on the image name. To make life easier for folks, please name your photos (for example fraser-pingyao-bird-2012.jpg).

Hey Everyone! We have been home for a week - hard to believe!! One of my funniest memories of Pingyao is when Mary decided to go and get a foot massage. We had been touring the city all day with Indie and she said her feet were tired. We kind of teased her for wanting a massage and then when she said how good her feet felt, Aileen, Dylis, and Joe decided to get a massage! And then Lois decided just to get her one foot massaged! They were all lined up at the stations and people stopped to see all the "foreigners" getting their feet massaged. They even had a man massage Joe's feet. Great way to end the day!!

Yeah, that foot massage was GREAT and AFFORDABLE! I just loved visiting here and bargaining with the very charming people. We had our pictures taken here with the locals at their request many times. I loved the stone bed. It eased my lower back pain! Lois and I had a nice glass of wine at an outside table. Finally, we had a chance to just kick back and take in the sights from a relaxed perspective. Then I went and got my foot massage and was joined by my fellow comrades. It was a very dusty place but so beautiful. Surrounded by the wall and really different vibe was in the atmosphere here.

Clay was able to resist purchasing a map from this lady, but Mary bought one from her.

I loved walking Pingyao's ancient wall. I was glad to get out and stretch my legs, and what a beautiful view to go with the exercise. Some of my best pictures came from this walk, from tiny plants growing in cracks of the wall to a flock of doves returning to their rooftop cote.

I really liked the time we spent in Pingyao. I was a little iffy about sleeping on a kang, but it was actually comfortable! I also liked walking around the shopping stalls with my roomie Catherine that evening. We saw a woman weaving at a loom outside one of the shops, which tempted me to buy one of the colorful scarves inside. I was also tempted to buy one of the drums for sale in a shop down the lane, but I opted out since I did not want to carry it around with me for the rest of the trip. I did stand for a while and watch a woman play, and I decided to put learning to drum on my things to do list. Looking back, I really wish I'd bought that drum.

Walking the wall surrounding Pingyoa and touring the first bank of China. This city really made you feel like you were in ancient times. I really enjoyed learning about this area.

Walking down the streets of Pingyao was a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of Beijing. Time appears to have stood still in Pingyao especially since it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a great idea that during the day cars are not permitted to drive down these century old streets. This makes the experience of stopping to take in the different sights and to people watch all the more enjoyable. It must have been a sight to see “Old Wall Street” when it was the hustle and bustle of China in the 18th century.

I started noticing people's faces change as we traveled from this city. I met a lady in Pingyao, her family came from Mongolia and I bought a Mongolian Instrumental CD馬頭琴 from her store. Also, wasn't Indy's wife was from Mongolia?
Also I noticed around the region, and still can't figure this out.. why people place cucumbers in water? Are they drinking the water, too?

When I teach Buddhism Influences on the Japanese mindset at Unit #2, I would like to use all the torture scenes I saw at the Daoism temple in Pingyao: 1) to recognize kanji and radicals, and the world after death in Buddhism world. I took all the torture scenes!

I have been trying to attach some photos by clicking 'edit', or 'attach' files to add images..but not working.
Is there any other ways I can post photos?
