I finally visited the gardens at the Huntington and they are spectacular. Avoid going on a Saturday, as it was very crowded and noisier than necessary. The docents were looking frazzled trying to keep the noise and enthusiasm at a minimum. I agere with Lisa that a discussion of the significance of names would have been very interesting in the seminar.

I agree. I think that, whenever possible, students should here a poem (or portion of it) in the original language. This offers a new perspective on the cadence and rhythm of the work. I am a native Spanish speaker, and if I use a poem that wasoriginally written in Spanish, I will read that version first, have a brief discussion about the rhythm and pacing, and them read the English version. This usually generates loads of conversation and comparisons between the two, and hopefully, a more careful reading of the English version.
