I am very happy to know that all the Power Points are going to be available to the teachers of the class; the images are so powerful! The one that I keep thinking of is the funeral of Mao and how the pictures are altered and the Gang of Four members are removed. I did notice that only two were at the funeral so where were the others? Yes I have another question?
I have been very skeptical of our press for years and can’t imagine how it would be to know that your Government changes things such as pictures. We have had the ability to alter pictures from the beginning of photography. I use pictures I took of our local hospital; with a pin-hole camera and created a picture that looks like a ghost is in the hospital bed.
Using pictures as a form of propaganda has happened from the beginning and students don’t believe this until you prove this to them.
I really would love to talk to people that lived through the cultural revolution, mainly because I have always been an artist and now that I am a teacher if something like this happened in today’s world. I would be in the middle of any re-education program.
I have always taught my own children and my students that in America you have the right to question authority! Along with this I also teach them that they must question like a mature adult not like an immature child.
