First, I would like to say that unless you are looking for an interactive map game or some very "heady", dissertation-like article, websites that focus in East Asia are difficult to find (at least for me).
I finally found this website, Asia Society Kids (I'm assuming that it's the Asia Society's (for) kid page.), and I liked it. It may seem a little baby-ish, but I think it serves as a nice starting point for students who don't know very much about Asia or the many countries that lie on that continent. There are introductions to language, there's art, stories, and games. I think the site would even be good for high school, especially if you wanted to take the stories and explore the similarities and differences in themes that are addressed. You could also look at the stories and see what cultural beliefs are expressed in the text and compare it to some common stories that we share in the United States.
It's neatly organized and easy to navigate. There's even a section at the bottom that offers lesson plans for parents and teachers which leads to another array of resources. The lesson plans, they say, are elementary, but I'm sure if you tweaked the activity a little, or even the questions, you definitely could bump up the rigor. When you go to the lesson plans section, there's a tab at the top, "Education" - there are even more resources for teachers on global competence...something I know I could use! Hope you enjoy the source! 🙂
