Website Review http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/
Asian for Educators/ Columbia University site is an amazing site for educators that want to include lessons on Asia in their classrooms. There are several categories on the site. Each one is filled with pictures and information on different Asian topics perfect for the classroom. The first category is professional development. Under this category it provides simulcasts, online courses, and independent study. They even have study tours listed as well. The second category is video lectures. These include Asian history, art and geography. When I clicked on it while researching I came upon videos on Tang poetry, Confucianism as well as many other really interesting things. The third category is resources. Under this is included geography, Art, Language Arts, Religions, World History, and Teaching Modules. I’m an English teacher and so I researched the Language Arts section. They had a book recommendation list. It was split into grade categories and also into 4 countries. China,Japan,Korea and Vietnam. An example under Japanese literature for high school was Black Rain Masuji Ibuse By: Kodansha, 1965. When I investigated the art section it was so rich with information I spent a ton of time just looking at all the online museums and the information on all the religions. This site is rich and very usable for all teachers. They even have lessons and information all the way down to Kindergarten.
