Homepage: Asia for Educators (An initiative of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia: For students and educators at all levels) http://www.afe.easia.columbia.edu
There are many resources for teachers and students on the website “Asia for Educators.” The main topics included are Geography, Art, Language Arts, Religions, The Song Dynasty, The Mongols in World History, The Grandeur of the Qing Dynasty, and China & Europe: What is “Modern”?
Additional resources include world history timelines, lesson plans, primary resources, and professional development opportunities for teachers.
My favorite part of the website is titled “Video Lectures & Presentations by Faculty,” which offers information on Asian history, art, and geography by staff of Columbia University. The best part about this section is that the short clips are transcribed underneath the video, which is helpful for students who are using the 1 to 2 minute clips as resources for research purposes. Student can click on questions such as “What did Confucius Teach?” and follow along with the video clip. They can pause it and write down answers at their own pace.
I found this website very helpful when planning my lesson on Confucius. I was able to make the lesson more interactive for my middle school students, while addressing technology standards.
