Since Clay was lecturing on Korea on Monday I was reminded of two great books by Helie Lee. Still Life with Rice and In the Absence of Sun. Still Life with Rice retells her grandmothers story of living in Korea prior to the Korean War, including the rule by the Japanese. The second book - In the Absence of Sun, gives the account of Lee's journey to rescue her Uncle from North Korea, he was separated from the family during the Korean War. Both were excellent reads. I had the opportunity to hear Lee speak several years ago at a social studies conference.

Hello, thanks for the reference on the elementary books. I was curious though if any of you can recommend books on social interactions found in China? I was hoping to do a lesson on identfying the differences from culture to culture.

    Thanks!

Everybody cooks rice isn't a book just about china, but how we have similar traditions

How my parents learned to eat is also a great book about a multicultural couple learning each other's traditions
