According to the LA Times, the profits of Chinese scalpers hawking Apple products are being cut now by a strong inventory of legit iPhone, iPads and MacBooks available in the Apple stores in Chinese cities. When scarce Apple products fueled "grey market" business, scalpers had a thriving business, smuggling Apple products past custom officials, and selling outside Apple stores. But now, the Apple company is steadily supplying its stores -- 5 in Shanghai and Beijing -- to capture one of the most profitable markets in the world. Apple products are a "status" brand, even though they cost 20% more in China because of taxes.
