The leader of the Communist Party in China has agreed to reduce the number of missiles directed at Taiwan. The Nationalist leader of Taiwan explained that while China has agreed to reduce the number of missiles, it has not given a date or indicated a number. I think this is a positve step towards building better international relations, and shows that these two parties should talk and compromise. The Chinese government seems more open to dialogue. It may be that the Olympics have opened not just China's doors to the world, but also presented the government with the opportunity to be more open-minded.

As the summer Olympics approach, I wonder what other effects this world event will have on the Chinese government that will result in positive change?

Relations between China and Taiwan maybe thawing somewhat but that does not change US pragmatism. An Australian website reported that the US State Department confimed that it has an 11 billion arms deal with Taiwan in the pipes.

Swiss Newspapers today complained that Switzerland has been overdoing it with arms exports this year - a little over 400 million dollars!
